I agree with you. Secular law has to trump religion norms (I won't dignify them by calling them laws) every time.

I agree that Wally Oppal doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. He won't do anything about the fraud operators in Vancouver, either. He just doesn't get it. However, I also think the Charter is flawed, not just abused.

I'll check out those two links.

I also watched the news clip you speak of, and this man is surely a prime example of why this Bountiful issue needs to be handled promptly and efficiently.

The charter of rights and freedoms has become a stopping ground for everyone from drug dealers, to molesters, to rapists, and enough is enough. It wasnt created to be used as a justification for illegal or immoral activities, but it has become nothng more than just that.

Unfortunately, I dont see Oppal standing to attention anytime soon. He only reacts when public outrage has reached a level where he then must placate the crowd- never before, or on his own.

In a related topic, there has been an ongoing discussion on two recent articles I posted on my site, regarding the recent Vaisakhi parades, and the portrayal of controversial pictures in a tent on the temple site. Check it out at

YET another topic where the rights of individuals conflict with the laws of the land.
